INDIVIDUALIZATION OF ANTINEOPLASTIC CHEMOTHERAPY AND PHARMACOGENETIC
Özlem KARAKURT1, Mehmet MELLİ1
Ankara Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Farmakoloji ve Klinik Farmakoloji Anabilim Dalı, ANKARA
Keywords: Antineoplastic chemotherapy, Pharmacogenetic, Individualization of treatment
After it had been understood that genetic differences among individuals significantly effect the response to antineoplastic chemotherapy and the adverse effects seen with these drugs, individualization of antineoplastic chemotherapy and pharmacogenetic studies with cancer patients have been contemporary. Till now, studies have been focused on mainly, genetic differences between drug metabolizing enzymes and drug targeted molecules (enzymes, receptors). New techniques facilitate search for these differences among individuals. For these reasons, in the next years, it can be said that pharmacogenetics will be much more important for patients taking antineoplastic chemotherapy.
