The role of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography in the staging of lymphoma, response to treatment and early diagnosis of relapses were evaluated in this review. 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography is the best noninvasive screening method after treatment. However, the findings should be correlated with the clinical data, other radiological methods and biopsy. 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography is superior to conventional radiological methods in the initial evoluation of Hodgkin lymphoma. 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography when combined with computed tomography has advantages to both of the separate methods. 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography is also benecial in defining the radiotherapy area and the planning of the surgical biopsy. Moreover, 18Ffluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography is found to be superior to galyum 67 in the literature.
