CANCER AND COPING

Cancer is still one of the most feared diseases for patients and their families in spite of recent developments in the management of cancer, therefore, the negative implications of the image of the disease and the intensive treatment regimes cause many problems in the patients. In order to cope with these problems, patients use many coping strategies such as fighting spirit, avoidance/ denial, fatalism, Anxious preoccupation and helplessness/ hopelessness The investigations on this subject conclude that there is a correlation between the coping strategy and outcome of the disease. In this article, the relation between coping strategies of the patients and outcome of the disease (longer survival) is discussed
