NEW USING AREAS OF NONSTEROIDAL ANTIINFLAMMATORY DRUGS IN ONCOLOGY

Nonsteroid antiinflammatory (NSAI) drugs have been used in the treatment of fever and inflammation for a long time. Since 1990's these drugs started to be discussed for the prevention and treatment of the cancer. NSAI drugs show their actions via inhibition of enzyme called cyclooxygenase 1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2). The experimental, epidemiological and clinical studies about selective and nonselective COX inhibitors have showed that these drugs are effective in treatment of most of cancers especially in colorectal cancer. In this review, the anticancer effect of the NSAI drugs and usefulness of these drugs in this field will be discussed.
