Impairment of nervous system functions is due to iron deficiency in enzymes and tissue hypoxia in iron deficiency anemia. Although, mental scores can not increase to normal limits, it improves by iron therapy. It has been shown that central conduction time prolonged in children with iron deficiency anemia in postnatal two years which is important for development of nervous system. There is no enough data about neuronal conduction in children older than 2 years. In present study, we investigated relationship between iron therapy and evoked potentials and mental scores in 30 children aged 3-15 years. Although, mental scores increased by iron therapy, visual evoked potentials and brain stem auditory potentials did not improve. Our results indicated that functions of nerveous system did not return to normal values with iron therapy and prevention of iron deficiency anemia is important for nervous system functions.
