TOXOPLASMOSIS MISDIAGNOSED AS MALIGNANT LYMPHOMA

Toxoplasmosis is an infectious disease caused by the protozoon -Toxoplasma gondii- which is a member of sporozoa family. Acquired toxoplasmosis is seldom symptomatic and the diagnosis is usually based on serological tests. There is no patognomonic sign for acquired toxoplasmosis. Misdiagnosis of an inflammatory process caused by Toxoplasma gondii in a lymph node as a malignant lymphoma is not an uncommon pitfall. In this report, a patient with toxoplasmosis infection misdiagnosed as Hodgkin's lymphoma by clinical and histopathological examination of cervical lymph nodes is reported. Also radiotherapy has been applied to the patient. This case report emphasize the importance of through clinical investigation and that the pathologists should be informed for all the clinical and laboratory findings of the patients to make an accurate diagnosis.
