TOTAL SERUM SIALIC ACID LEVELS IN CHRONIC CHILDHOOD IDIOPATHIC THROMBOCYTOPENIC PURPURA

Serum total sialic acid (TSA) were measured in 13 children with chronic childhood idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (CCITP) and in 20 normal subjects. TSA levels were determined by using Ehrlich method. Serum TSA levels were elevated in the CCITP patients as compared with that of control groups. Significant difference was seen in the serum TSA between the two groups(p<0.001). These results may suggest that TSA elevation in CCITP patients may be used a marker for diagnosis.
