Spinal column is a common localisation for both primary and metastatic tumours. In our clinics we diagnosed and treated 30 patients who had spinal cord compression caused by tumour expansion in toracolumbar region, between May 1991 and March 1998. Anterior decompression, anterior fusion and anterior instrumentation were done to all patients. There was two Frankel levels progression in neurologic status, a %63 decrease in kyphosis and %53 decrease in canal obstruction in their last visits. In vertebral column tumours symptoms depending on segmentary spinal neuromechanical instability are common and especially in metastatic and malign tumours a multidisciplinary treatment plan is needed If radiotherapy and chemotherapy are insufficient in solving mechanical and neurological problems, surgery has to be combined.
