In the recent years, for diagnosis of iron deficiency and for investigation of body iron need. studies of the level of soluble transferrin receptor have increased. In our study, the role of serum soluble transferrin receptor levels in diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia and its differential diagnosis from anemia of chronic disorders was studied. Totally 58 patients (34 of those with iron deficiency anemia and 24 with anemia of chronic disorders) and 20 healty persons were included into study. In the iron deficiency cases, the levels of soluble transferrin receptors were statistically higher than the other two groups, There were no statistically difference between the control groups and anemia of chronic disorders. In conclusion, in diagnosis and differentiation of iron deficiency anemia from anemia of chronical disease, the measurement of serum soluble transferrin receptor assay is a valuable diagnostic method.
